New Bed

This weekend was busy.

Yesterday morning, very early in the morning, Zyan's new bed was delivered at 7.45am.
Yes. It is that early.

We decided that it is time for Zyan to start sleeping in his own room and on his own bed, rather than mattress on the floor in our room. :P
So here is his new bed, with angry bird bedsheet.

Thereafter, brought him to his swimming class. Last lesson for the year.

Afternoon, Karinna and myself went out for lunch. She wanted to try this place called Totts. Anyway, food wasn't great, though it was supposedly devised by celebrity chef.
I guess as long as not cooked by the famed chef himself, it is probably like that. :D

Came back home at 2.30pm. OpenNet guys were already at our home. They were supposed to be here at 4pm. Oh well.
So they were  here to pull the fibre cable connectivity, and place the terminal point at the location in our home. They had previously laid the cabling till the outside of our home, so yesterday they pulled the connection all the way in.
By the time they ended, it's about 4pm.
In between, there were some rains, that probably slowed down their process as well.
Now it is to wait for SingTel to arrange an appointment for them to bring down the modem etc for the final connection. Not sure when.

Evening time, went to NTUC. Had to get drinks and some other snacks as we have guests coming to our home on Sunday, which is today.
Bought quite a lot of drinks. Like kena drought like that siah.

Then we dropped our things at our home doorstep, and went to a wake.
Friend's mother-in-law passed away.
The only easier time-slot to go pay respect was yesterday evening.

By the time reach home, it was already 8+pm.
Had late dinner, and then it was time to make little Zyan to his bed.
He didn't really sleep well in the afternoon, as he wasn't very used to the bed.

Managed to pat him to sleep before 11pm.
He woke up in the middle of the night, asking to be carried, then he wanted to sleep on the mattress at 3am!
So I switched with him.

I slept on angry bird bed, with him on the mattress at the floor.

Hmmm. How long to get him used to sleeping on bed? :)

Cycle & Scoot

Today has been a busy day.

Early in the morning, mom called me, said she leg pain. Wanted me to bring her to see doctor, as her medicine had just run out 2-3 days ago.

Needed to do our marketing today, so brought Zyan along to wet market, do our stuff, went home, then go pick mom to see the doctor.
The clinic is at Potong Pasir, opened from 8am to 12noon on Sat/Sun.

It was pretty crowded. All in all, it took about 1.5 hrs for travel as well as consultation and getting medication.

Supposed to go acupuncture for my own back problem. Didn't do that. Karinna went ahead to do some acupuncture for her legs though.
When I go back home, changed, and went to meet up with the most beautiful woman in the world, and we went for a baptism celebration of her ex-colleague's son.
It is at Serangoon CC, not too far from the place where I picked Karinna from the acupuncture appointment.

At the end of the celebration, we went to a bicycle shop in Ang Mo Kio.
Karinna had wanted to buy a bicycle, so we had looked a little around. We had been to Simei Eastpoint to check out the bicycle shop there too.
We're both not very into bikes, so we know nuts about bikes. Only recently read up a bit, and it appears that Raleigh might be the one for her as entry level.

She had a try at the shop area there. I tried as well, it feels more sturdy than another of the lady's bike there.
So we sticked to Raleigh.
One of the purpose is to go East Coast to cycle, with Zyan on his scooter (and perhaps his own bike in future).
Therefore, a Saris Bone2 rack is also purchased. :P
With that, of course added a rear light, and a bell and a lock.
That's probably all we need for now.

Got home, changed to a more sporty gear, and off we go to East Coast, for the maiden ride of the new toy.

The bike on the rack on the car at East Coast

The bike in its own form.

Unmounted the bike, and kept the rack. took out the scooter, then off we go.
One person on the bike, one person on the scooter, and one person on feet.
Simply guess who is on what. :P

Maiden ride on new bike.

Can't really do long today. It was already quite late when we were there.
It was about 7pm when we left East Coast, was already getting dark.

Zyan likes to go East Coast, so I think there will be more East Coast trips for the many weeks to come.
But, I need to solve my 'feet' problem soon. :D

Bus & MRT

This morning, I told Zyan if he wanted to go gai-gai.
Of course, his response is very affirmative.

I had wanted to bring him to East Coast again to let him ride his scooter-glider.
Then realised that yesterday, he peed onto the baby/child car seat, and I had not fixed it back yet after the washing of the cover.
So with a quick change of mind, I decided to bring him out for a bus cum MRT ride.

So off we went, waited for Bus33.
Came after a few minutes of waiting, and up we hopped on to it.
This is his first maiden bus trip I think.

Showing his dimple:
The gong-gong look at the bus seat.

We took to Kembangan, then switched to MRT.
I guess he's excited because of going out, and not because he's taking MRT for the first time.

Waiting at the platform for the train to arrive

Father and son self-portrait:

Arrival at Singpore Expo station:
There was no aim in going Expo. Purely out of impromptu decision. LOL.

He's a greedy boy. Once alighted, and walked towards the exhibition halls, he saw Texas Chicken's banner, and says "hamburger!".
Ok ok. Greedy boy got his wish fulfilled.
Brought him there to have a small bite.
Look at his face!

Yeah! Hamburger!
After loitering around for a little bit, it was time to bring him home for his lunch.
On the way back to MRT, something caught his attention.

He even sang songs while putting his head in the little hole there.
For me, I just took pictures with my mobile phone, and a video. *giggle*

Once home, had his lunch, then his juice, and off for his nap.
Quite an OK Sunday morning for him I guess.

Redang 2012

We went for the cruise again this year. 01 - 03 Aug.
Star Cruise Virgo to Redang.

It's the The Lees again, but this time, he has a lot of relatives going on-board with him.
A whopping 20-people strength in total, including us.

Anyway, he's the leader of the group, after all, he is sort of a regular cruiser now.

This time round, it is a little bit of disaster for us.
Zyan had some stomach flu on Monday. He vomitted after all meals that day.
Worse of all, he had high fever! At some point of time, it was 39.2 degress celsius!
Brought him to see doctor, had some medicine, and Tuesday seemed to be quite well.
Wednesday morning appeared to be fine too. Great!

Like how it was last year, we went on board around 4.30pm on Wednesday, dumped things into our cabin room, and went for the dinner.
Dinner was so so this time. The so-called fillet I had wasn't great.
Can't remember what else I ate.

After dinner, we went for the show on-board.
It's a magic show by, hmmm, some magician.
It's always interesting to watch magic shows when you don't know the secret behind it.
Zyan looked very attentive during the show, and kept asking me "Why no light?", when the theatre was dimmed except for the stage.
I only told him that the light is at the stage. :P

By the time the show ended, he's also quite tired. Didn't really want to sleep until much later.
Anyway, bathed him, and let him had some milk, and then he fell asleep shortly.

He woke up in the middle of night, asking to be carried. And then vomitted a little bit on me.
Woah! Must buy Toto!
Just a little, not so bad. After wiping him clean, and coaxing him a bit, the little fellow went back to his dreamland again.

Come Thursday morning.
Cool. I felt sick.
I knew right from the moment I woke up, I was unwell.
Felt like vomitting, had diarrhea.
No appettite for breakfast, no appettite for lunch, no appettite for dinner.
Still must push myself to go along with Karinna and Zyan so that Zyan can give his mommy more peace during mealtime.
Once they were more or less done, I still have to make an earlier exit back to cabin room to rest.
Sleep until got headache myself.
Still make myself to go to the Redang beach, which is the highlight of the cruise.
This time, Zyan was awake from the cruise to Redang, and he was happily throwing bread to the fishes at the beach.
I only joined them at the waters after rest a while at some hammock.
Shiok.

The boat ride back to the cruise was very bumpy. One of those old bumboats, no aircon, damn stuffy.

After dinner, they went for the night show as well, but Zyan fell asleep halfway through the show.
Poor mommy had to carry the big boy all the way to cabin room.
Middle of night, Zyan threw out again. This time a lot more, and I was feeling damn giddy with the headaches I had.
Still, he's the one to be served. The parents did all the work. :P

Com Friday morning.
Mommy's turn to be sick.
She had diarrhea. According to her, she went toilet no less than 10 times!
Prawn Dead Me ah!

So we had very very simple breakfast. Both of us also no appettite.
Only Zyan still can eat, although he's still not very well "internally". Greedy boy.
But I guess if your appettite is sill good, it is always a good sign.

By the time it reached Singapore, it's almost 12+pm.
We disembarked around 1pm, and went back home to rest.

Zyan fell asleep on the taxi ride back home.
Sweet little boy.

Next year, Redang 2013?

Light Grouse

At KL LCCT Airport now.

Had to wake up seven early eight early today. Had a 6am flight to catch.
By the time reach customer's site, it was almost 9am already.

Came here to conduct some training session on SAP installations for them.
The thing is, why on earth do this? Why would they need to do installations again? It's all done!
Already voiced out, PM says go on, so I acted as a good boy.

Anyway, I don't expect them to understand much also. I think the audience is pretty much a wrong fit. Alas, just try my best to let them understand some of it.
At least some basic concept should drill into their head.
Installations itself, are really secondary.

In the midst of my session, Karinna called. I rejected the call.
At break time, I saw a SMS about Zyan taking an overdose of medicine, and had to bring him to KK hospital to have more proper check.
Oh! My little boy is being too greedy.

Good that he turned out ok, just needed to be monitored at home.
Hmmmm. Time to have father-and-son talk again!?!?!

So the training went on. It went longer than I expected, as I wanted to share more than installations itself.
Anyway, some questions were raised beyond installations itself, which was actually not bad.
But, I still reserved my thinking that the absorption rate was not very high. :P

Too dry a topic.

Had to rush a little to the train station, so that I would not be late for my flight. I prefer to have ample time always, to take my dinner in peace.
Not bad, reach the airport about 7.30pm. Almost 2 hrs before my flight scheduled to leave.

As I walked, I know I am tired. Been standing for long hours today.
Back hurts, and legs feel weak as well.
Age is catching up. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Well, it's been a long day. By the time I reach home tonight, it's gonna be a new day soon. :P

Father's Day

Yesterday, we went to a friend's place for some pre-Father's Day celebration.
It's a group where all the parent-couples have only 1 child so far, and each toddler is of the same age.
All were born in the year 2010, and actually, within 1 month period. 3 little boys, and 2 little girls.

Of course, the kids were enjoying themselves, playing and jumping around.
Can't run away from occasional crying for whatever reasons.

We had pot luck for the food.
For ourselves, Karinna prepared one big big plate of Hokkien Mee, a simple dish of egg, and a box of Konyaku (whatever that spelling is).
There were pork ribs, Thai curry etc.
Basically, too much food, can eat until vomit lah.

At the end of the food, there were some 'surprises' for the daddies.
Each of the daddy was given a card, prepared by their child (of course with the mommy's help).
See what I got:

That's his little left hand print, and his 'writings' for wishing his daddy.

So cool!

This will be kept with the loads of greeting cards and wedding cards which I have kept since ages ago.

Data Roaming

I had recently went Desaru over the weekend. While there, I received an SMS telling me that I had amassed more than $50 with data roaming, and it goes on to entice me to sign up for the Data Bridging service.

Interestingly, my phone has an option to uncheck data usage while roaming. It has always been unchecked, as I never have intention to use data roaming service at all. I decided to clarify with my service provider SingTel when I got back to Singapore.

I called, logged an issue, and they took down some information from me. It took a while for someone to call me, and tell me that I had indeed chalked up quite a fair bit for using data roaming service. To be fair, I did reject a call from SingTel the next day, as I was in a meeting.

I was advised, to check the applications on my smart phone, and disable the internet connectivity, as they said some applications will still stealthily access the internet even if we may not be using, even when phone was set to stop data roaming.

I was thinking, if I have 100 applications on my phone, I would be quite busy to check all applications to ensure no data roaming is active.
The simpler way is to have Telco stop the data roaming access isn’t it? That’s a form of protection as well.

#1. I never signed up for data roaming, I don’t think it was part of my subscription plan. I did sign up for data plan though.
#2. I had requested SingTel to stop the data roaming service. I was told it cannot be done.

In the end, he told me he can give me a waiver of 20%.
Ultimately, I have to pay for something which I didn’t ask for, and best of all, to pay for not using at all.
I do not need it. I do not want it.

Perhaps IDA can look into it, and propose ways to best protect consumers from unsolicited charges. This is in many ways similar to the various forms of SMS which entice consumers to reply as subscriber, and keep sending charged messages.

Can anything be done to help consumers?
I guess they won't really care.

I guess even if other providers cannot do anything to data roaming, I will probably still switch provider when the contract expire.
HELLo!

Angry Birds!

Zyan always like to play with our phones.
The other night, he took my phone, and sit aside quietly to fiddle with it.

I went away to do something.

I was told by Karinna that Zyan said 'many many' to her, and laugh out himself.

When I took my phone back, this is what I found:

The screen is full of Angry Birds!

Cycling Day

Today didn't make any arrangement for extra work duty.
So we decided to go East Coast for cycling.

Karinna even thought of buying a bicycle, although she has fear of riding one. :P

Anyway, we were there quite early, about 10am.
The place wasn't that crowded yet.
I was contemplating what kind of bicycle to cycle for our family. To split into 2 individuals, or a family-knitted one.
In the end, we chose this:

Main problem is that Zyan is still quite restless most of the time. So might be better to use this type. Still, there's no seatbelt there, so have to be watchful.

We only took an hour ride. It's tiring lah. Old already.
At the end of the hour, the only fresh person is Zyan. Ha ha ha.

Then we took a slow walk to McDonald nearby. We knew it's the last day of service there at that location.
It has been there for like 30years already. Since I was just a little boy, it had been there.
Today is the last day, so went there for a quick bite, and see the last of it.
Quite a fair crowd there, not sure if it is the usual weekend crowd, or the crowd that come to kaypoh a bit here and there.
Here's a snapshop of the counter crowd:

So there we were, 2 days in a row at McDonald.
Same food, same people.
Zyan is obviously enjoying his pancake.

They have a pamphlet telling customers it's the last day, and the new store is has at East Coast, which is now opened at the Seafood centre area.
There's a free apple pie with the pamphlet used in the new outlet.

Who knows?
You may see us at the other outlet later today or maybe tomorrow? :P

Maiden Mc

After Zyan's swimming class yesterday, we went to Centrepoint. Needed to buy some present for a 1 year old birthday party.
After getting some purchases done, we went to McDonald at the basement.

It was Zyan's first maiden trip to McDonald, as far as I can remember.
His first fastfood place was Burger King though, when he was a few months old. Hehehehe.

Bought him some pancakes. Ohhh. Should have taken some pictures of him with the pancakes.
Oh well, only the Milo drink is here with him.

You think he's trying to offer the drink to me?
Fat hope!
He's saying: Papa, I am going to drink it.

2nd Birthday

Today is Zyan's 2nd birthday.
And that is the main reason why I didn't go KL for my work trip.

This morning, we went to his child care place at 1030am.
He's on half-day session now, so his party will be in the morning.

We sprang on him, but he's too young to be surprised. Hehehe.
Here you see him in his school uniform with his mommy:

Karinna had someone to help take pictures. Just some simple pictures lah.
It will take some time before we even get to see the pictures ourselves.
So not too many pictures for the school party celebration.

Not too bad, 3 of his classmates were there to celebrate his birthday.
2 others were absent today.
They only had 6 toddlers in the class at the moment. :P

At end of it, brought him back home, for his shower and subsequent nap.
We took the chance to go for our lunch elsewhere.
When we got home, boy was still sound asleep.

We had wanted to bring him out after his nap, but he slept till almost 4pm. It's a long nap today. 2.5hrs! We wondered if he will sleep early tonight.

So we decided to take him out for his hair-cut instead. His last hair cut was like last year October or something. It's been quite a while.
Need to distract him a little for his cut:

At night, we only had a simple cake for him. Or rather, a muffin.
It's so small that we only put 1 candle for him.
He's still happy no matter what.
As long as there's candle to blow, cake to eat, and mommy/daddy around with him. :)

Probably he enjoyed a lot today.
At 9.15pm, already look tired. It's good as we want to shift his sleeping hour earlier, and hopefully he gets more sleep. He doesn't seem to sleep as much as most other babies.
He still managed to roll here and there after his milk, and slept only almost 45minutes later.
It's still good though.

That's my son's 2-year-old birthday.
Happy Birthday Son.

Airshow 2012

Got some complimentary ticket for Airshow Singapore 2012.

I was told the carpark coupan was expensive. $100 per coupon.
*GASP!*
Serious!?! Crazy!

Anyway, I didn't pay for it. Hehehe.

We only went there around 3.30pm, the airshow display was just over.
At first, Zyan was not very excited. You can see a little glimpse to his facial expressions here:

It was still quite crowded, although at that time, the people who just entered the place was definitely less than compared to the number of people leaving. Still, the crowd was still there.

There were still lots of people queueing up to climb up the planes and choppers from SAF. Zyan actually cried to want to get up to the plane, but it was just too long a queue for us. So we had to coax him otherwise.

After the outdoor exhibition, we went to the indoor exhibition. At least it was much cooler, but I must say the weather yesterday was good, except for the slight drizzle.
He doesn't know Spiderman yet, but who cares? Take picture first.

I wonder if tanks can fly. Got exhibition in Airshow too!

Overall, I think the event was cool. As in the transportation-wise (other than the expensive carpark), the shuttle buses seemed to be non-stop. Lots of taxis running there too, but I think there would be surcharges.
Taking the shuttle buses to Changi Airport Terminals would be neat too, as you can enjoy the easy access to MRT, and have some food before moving on.

Next Airshow, 2014.
See ya!

Zyan's Questions

Zyan is coming 2 years soon.
Another 3 weeks!

He has started to talk more, and more, and more.
So it's time to teach him to ask questions.
Here we go!

I think, as long as he doesn't ask me, it is fine.
Shall leave the answering to his mom. ;)

On the first day of CNY, here's how our narcissus flower looked:

Table & Chair

It's been quite a long time since I last blogged.
Lazy.

Anyway.
恭喜发财!
It's Chinese New Year! Entering the Water Dragon.

It has been a pretty long weekend. Monday and Tuesday were CNY holidays. Coupling with Saturday and Sunday, making it super duper long weekend for everyone.
If take leave for Wednesday to Friday, lagi terok.
Think by the time go back to work next Monday, must be si beh rusty.

Oh well.
I started work today.

As for Zyan, he started his toddler class at the beginning of Jan. Yesterday was the start of class after CNY.
He has been adapting well, or at least that was what claimed by the teachers.
I think Zyan is ok in school as well. I think he is more well-behaved there than at home. :D

Anyway, we wanted to buy him some toddler's table/chair. So we went to IKEA in the evening.
Bought something a little bit bigger, extendable to make it higher if needed. Zyan won't need that height for now, but the idea of making it higher seems too exciting for us.

Of course, the assembly of the table and chair is done by me. Who else? Not that I am good in it. LOL. As long as it gets assembled.

We wanted to buy 1 RED and 1 BLUE. Blue chair went out of stock. Wow!

See the 2 items on the table? A guitar and a keyboard!
Got it yesterday from Toys 'R' Us, with redemption voucher from UOB. heh heh heh.
Need to use it, else it will get expired at end Jan.

So now, Zyan has got new table and new chair.
New toys.
And some ang pows.
He must be very happy.
