In Sept-Oct 2022, I was bathing and anyhow hum a tune.
I liked what I was humming, and after my bath, I quickly recorded it down into my phone via whistling.
Then I started thinking what words can fit into the humming, and I somehow put some words into it, and recorded my own very unpolish singing version into whatsapp to myself.
I then shared with Karinna and said: "This is my song!!" LOL
Fast-forward to Jun 2024, I uploaded the tune to Suno.com hoping to make the tune smoother etc.
Then voila, started creating different versions of the song itself.
Was a very fun play from then till now.
Make the song longer, extend with different lyrics etc. Sometimes try different genre.
In a way, this tune is my baby. 😉
After numerous different version, this particular is solely with the tune and lyrics originally created.
And the AI tool helped to tweak a bit, and I am quite satisfied with it.
So here it is, hope you enjoy this as much as I do:
Original words were written at 1 year anniversary after Tiananmen Square incident. It was quite unpolished. Chatgpt amended beautifully for me. 如果和平有个方向 就让它在这里停泊
Somehow, I've been thinking and humming this song lately. Don't know why. Of course, it's a fabulous song, which will always be able to bring lots of memories to people. Perhaps more importantly, the lyrics of the song is so damn meaningful.
命里有时终须有 命里无时莫强求
Somehow, this video has some sort of translation into English with the lyrics. Interesting.
Even more interesting, is that there *IS* an English version of the song! However, the meaning of the lyrics of both the songs are actually different. Still, the lyrics of this English version, is not so bad itself too. Cool.
Today, I heard this song again. I always keep forgetting the title of the song. But this time, I remembered. It's one of those songs that, once you listen, you must love it. I do.
Long long time ago, there was only a few radio stations in Singapore. There were mainly 1 English and 1 Chinese radio stations.
Then in late 80s, 98.7, 95.0, 93.3 and blahblahblah came along.
As the youngster then, I tuned in to 98.7 and 93.3 for the most current songs. As years go bym I 'promoted' myself to 95.0 and 97.2 for more of the older songs. I've stopped 95.0
Now, for the English station, I tuned to Gold FM90.5 Oldies but goodies, and the goonies are not enuff. :P
When we were driving in Perth Australia, sometimes it is hard to get radio reception clearly in the car.
At times when it is clearer, sometimes the songs played were quite weird to our ears.
However, I remember hearing a song there, which I thought was quite catchy, but I never knew who the singer or the song is.
Then when back in Singapore, while watching TV, I heard that song again. It was played on the S-Factor trailer (stupid show anyway), and it got me excited to hear more of the song.
And cluelessly. I searched.
Voila! It's "Hot N Cold", by Katy Perry. Dunno who also. :D
You change your mind, Like a girl changes clothes, Yeah you, PMS, Like a bitch I would know.
And you, I would think, Always speak, Crypticly.
I should know, That you're no good for me.
{CHORUS} Cause you're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in then you're out, You're up then you're down, You're wrong when it's right, It's black and it's white, We fight, we break up, We kiss, we make up,
(you)You don't really want to stay, no. (but you)But you don't really want to go-o.
You're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in and you're out, You're up and you're down,
We used to be, Just like twins, So in sync, The same energy, Now's a dead battery. Used to laugh bout nothing, Now your plain boring.
I should know that, You're not gonna change.
{CHORUS} Cause you're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in then you're out, You're up then you're down, You're wrong when it's right, It's black and it's white, We fight, we break up, We kiss, we make up.
(you)You don't really want to stay, no. (but you)But you don't really want to go-o.
You're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in and you're out, You're up and you're down,
Someone call the doctor, Got a case of a love bi-polar, Stuck on a roller coaster, Can't get off this ride, You change your mind, Like a girl changes clothes.
{CHORUS} Cause you're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in then you're out, You're up then you're down, You're wrong when it's right, It's black and it's white, We fight, we break up, We kiss, we make up.(x2)
(you)You don't really want to stay, no. (but you)But you don't really want to go-o.
You're hot then you're cold, You're yes then you're no, You're in and you're out, You're up and you're down,
Another singer has died. Somehow, she's not really very very popular, but the first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it.
Breast cancer, the illness that took her life.
Hmmmm. Incidentally, the last few entries I have here are somehow, in a way, connected to death.
Rest in peace.

Le ciel obscure la solitude qui nous rends trop de poline Le ceour qui brise a cause qu'il y a veul seul L'amour est partie il ya longtemps que je t'ai vu C'est incroyable que je peut vivre comme ca
The other day, I was browsing through the internet for fun, and saw from some YouTube links of 新谣 songs from the 80s.
Well, the ultimate song which most people will be aware, and in my opinion, it's also the song which kick-started the song-writing atmosphere at that point of time, is none other than 邂逅.
It's probably very very hard to find any video of the original singers singing the song together. Of course, I don't think there's a MTV for this song too. hehehe The one available in YouTube, is just the song with background pictures done by somebody.
Very simple yet nice tune, and the lyrics, mind boggling to me.
Can't remember which show I watched recently, and they have some people singing songs. I guess must be 王牌大賤諜 which I watched.
Anyway, then I heard this song called 來去夏威夷, which I believed I had heard before. It's quite a catchy song. Hokkien song is not always dull and boring, or in some cases, 俗气.
I think this song is quite cool.
Ultimately, the most famous song from the interesting pair (visually handicapped) should be this 流浪到淡水.
Lately, the visually handicapped singer which really sings well, is none other than fire engine 萧煌奇.
Of course, in the Singapore scene, we have our very own 陈伟联.
This morning, on the way to office, was listening to Love FM97.2 as usual.
DJ was mentioning some news about a religious teacher passed away. He was 圣严法师,who also happened to have given guidance to a number of Asian stars.
Well, that was not the important thing. The thing I remembered this morning, is some saying given by 圣严法师. 山不转 路转 路不转 人转 人不转 心转
How philosophical! Does it remind you that when you were young, you probably have something like this in your farewell autograph book (Primary/Secondary School). 天下无难事 只怕有心人
To end my little entry here, here's a very apt song to share, and very meaningful too!
I used to think that I have very good patience. However, come to think of it, it may not be so apparently.
I'm usually early for my appointments (can't be always early/punctual, else I would have termed myself as saint), and I usually won't complain much for waiting for people.
I've waited for people for more than an hour before. 2 hrs? Maybe, can't remember. And I am usually at least 10 minutes for my appointments.
I like to think of myself being early such that I will not waste other people's time. So I always try to make myself early for whatever appointment. Be it for business or personal.
Nowadays, when people are late, I tend to get a little agitated. Much more than I used to. Maybe nowadays I don't have a walkman to keep me company, that's why. :P
Maybe being punctual is not a good thing. Hmmmm.
Time waits for no man. Man has no time. Why wait?
I should start playing chess again.
Here's a wonderful classic song, called "Time".
Alan Parsons Project - Time
Time, flowing like a river Time, beckoning me Who knows when we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river To the sea Goodbye my love, Maybe for forever Goodbye my love, The tide waits for me Who knows when we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river (on and on) To the sea, to the sea Till it's gone forever Gone forever Gone forevermore Goodbye my friends, Maybe forever Goodbye my friends, The stars wait for me Who knows where we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river (on and on) To the sea, to the sea Till it's gone forever Gone forever Gone forevermore
In the late 70s and early 80s, Singaporean chinese speak their own dialects, and communications between different dialect groups can be problematic at times, although this allow people to be exposed and learn other dialects as well.
鸡同鸭讲 can be quite funny sometimes.
Then, the government decided to come up with the "Speak Mandarin Campaign", and TV was then not allowed to broadcast dialect shows anymore. That's when we cannot watch Hong Kong serials in Cantonese any longer, and they were all dubbed in Mandarin.
The "Speak Mandarin Campaign" came with the signature song, sung by the "不食人间烟火的" Tracy Huang!
Isn't it cool that people still managed to have this song somewhere?
