Goodbye 2007

Actually, didn't want to post any blog entry today.
But since it is the last day of the year, just give face to blogspot a bit. hehe.

As expected, today was kind of slow moving day. Lots of people on leave or holiday mood I guess.

I only went to a partner's office to get some software, have to start learning new things in the coming 2008! So exciting! NOT.

Thereafter, go back office idle idle a bit, then left.

Later, we'll be going to a friend's house to have some form of 'countdown'.
My maths not so good nowadays. Give me toes to count ok?

Well, that's it for the year. Good year, bad year, doesn't matter. It's ending. Just try to make the coming year a good one!

Count on me Simon Tay ...
Count on me to give my best and more ...
*poot poot* :)

Wedding Lunch

Today went to Edmund's wedding. It's a lunch. Went to Hyatt around 12pm.
I was not the first to be there. When I reached there, Herman, PuiKwan, Alice were already there. Francis was one of the bridegroom's Brothers, so he was much more formally attired.

Slowly, people stroll in.

So we seated and waited until about 1pm, then the lunch started. Just before the ceremony started, a familiar figure came into the room. She walked quite fast to her seat actually. She is the Best Actress of MediaCorp Star Awards 2007, 林湘萍!
She is so beautiful! My idol! Yeah!

Of course she's didn't do anything or go on stage. Otherwise, she would have taken the limelight away. Leave that to the bride.

During the third dish or so, I went toilet. When I was walking back to my seat, Edmund and his wife came out. They were going to change into another outfit. Then this lady came running (elegantly ... *wink*) from behind. As she ran, she said 'hello' to some aunties in front of me, and then shouted softly and the bride and bridegroom to wait for her. She is 林湘萍 lah. She and I brushed shoulders with each other. *giggle*

Ahhh. Then the lunch became good. ha ha ha.

This wedding lunch got no 'yum seng'. But somehow, when the wedding couple came to our table, the idiots at my table want to 'yum seng'. So I acted as a loudhailer for a while, and did it again at the next table. These 2 tables were all my ex-colleagues from Triaton/HP days.

On my way home, my shoe broke. The sole part dropped off. I had to walk sllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy to take a bus instead of walking home. Cartoon. And it rained. CARTOON.

怀旧卡通

Thanks to the "Fathers of Internet" Vinc Cerf & Robert Kahn, we have internet available for us to use in the modern days. And to the "Father of World Wide Web", Tim Berners Lee, for enabling the use of WWW, that brings the overwhelming success of communication via internet.

Internet has a whole wealth of information, it's simply unbelievable.

Today, my backside itchy again, I searched for cartoons that I watched years ago.
Yes. You guessed it, I am able to find some of the stuff, and some are pretty cool too.

If you are 50/60, your children (if any) would know this. If you are 30/40, you probably grew up with this. If you are below 30, you probably missed it a little, and if young enough, your parents would know this.

小甜甜

This blog entry has some information about the cartoon itself.

科學小飛俠 - One of my favourite when I was young. Gatchaman.

龍龍與忠狗

小寶歷險記 - Can still remember the first line of the song!

There are a lot more out there, didn't really get to find all of them out.
There's even episodes that you can view on 小甜甜, but it is in Japanese, with no subtitles.

Next time then I see if I have the mood to find more ...

Ah Ma's Birthday

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. Went over at around 6+pm. before that, we went to Bedok buy some pork knuckles. Bought only 2, as I thought there would be quite a lot of food.

There was my pork knuckles, and they have chilli crabs, chicken feet and KFC. The KFC came quite late, so there was a time where people were just waiting for food.

Quite noisy with so many kids around, especially when loud speaker Melvin is there. Ha ha ha.

Who was not there? Deon, who has to work, and Benjamin, who was on the way back home from Malaysia. Benjamin only reached home around 10+pm, quite late compared to our timing the day before.

Only reached home around 1am, because my sisters want to gamble, so I have to chip in to make it 4 persons. Chin chai lah, long long 1 time is no problem for me.
That Brenda and Melvin kept giving funny reasons to their parents in order to go home earlier. hehehe.
Taxi fare more expensive after 12midnight. Who dunno? D'uh!

Next, it shall be the X'mas Lunch at my home.
I think I'll give each and everybody ONE piece of fishball to eat enough already. :D

Walking In The Air

While at Borders in KL earlier, I heard a familiar song which I have not heard for a long time. Beautiful sound I must say.

So I decided to search for the familiar song on the net, and to my surprise, it was written for a cartoon. You can read more about this here.

And there's even the part of the cartoon story with the song in You Tube! Amazing!

Walking in the Air

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you

Far across the wold
The villages go by like trees
the rivers and the hills
The forest and the streams

Children gaze open mouth
Taken by suprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes

We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
mountains floating by

Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

Berjaya Times Square Encounter

We left Genting yesterday noon. Reached KL close to 2pm. While trying to check-in into the hotel (Berjaya Times Square, we were there 2.5 years ago!), one familiar face appeared beside me. No no, I don't mean Karinna. It's my nephew, Benjamin!
吓死我了!

Apparently, he went to Penang on Monday night, and down to KL before going back Singapore. He went with his friend, and his friend's parents.
The world can be quite small sometimes ...

So after check-in, we left for lunch, then went shopping around Lot10 and Sungei Wang. Sungei Wang is too crowded for me, not my type of place. Kinda stuffy at some places too. But everytime we go KL, somehow we will appear there also. Dunno why.

After that, went back to Berjaya Times Square. At least it's a more comfortable place to shop.

Rest. Took dinner. Rest. Benjamin didn't call me, as he said his friend would be too lonely if he joined us. Nevermind lah, I have my wife with me what ... :P

Wanted to join him for breakfast, but somehow he was at the different tower wing of the hotel. So asked him to come to my room after breakfast.
He just came a short while, then left to meet his friend to go out. He's staying there 1 more day than us.

So me and Karinna went out for last minute shopping, bought a bit of things (mostly not mine :P), and had to go back to get ready for check-out.

And so, here we are, back home after a few hours of ride.

Below are some pictures taken in Berjaya Times Square. Very long never take pictures with Chrismas Tree ... hehehe

Back Home

Just came back home not more than 2 hrs ago.
Journey back was pretty ok. Left around 3pm, and reached Singapore about late 7+pm, then 8+pm at Beach Road.

WE left for Genting on 17 Dec night, somehow it was slower, the driver stopped at a few places, and we reach Genting around 5am. No hurry, as cannot check-in at that time anyway.
It was ages ago since we last brought camera along with us when we go Genting. This time, however, I just brought along. :P
Here's the lobby area where the coach stopped for us at First World Hotel.

First 2 days at Genting, my luck pretty bad. Play whatever, seems to be only losing, and not much winnings in sight. I just played jackpot for fun, no table gambling this time round. Only on third day, which is the day we were going down to Kuala Lumpur, my luck turned slightly better. I even got a "Minor Jackpot", and win RM78+! Yeah!
Oeverall, still lose money, as usual.
Karinna's luck was somehow opposite of mine. She was pretty ok in the first 2 days, but eventually donated back (and more) to Genting.

The room was good, we were allocated Tower 2, the newer wing at First World. We were on level 18, room 921.

Some pictures taken around the First World Theme Park.

And then, as usual with Karinna's appetite, she likes to eat the Ah Yat restaurant whenever we go Genting. We ordered ONE set (guess who took the set), and some dim sum. Here's some pictures to whip up your appetite. :D
There's abalone, shark's fin soup, bird nest egg tart. She's taking that first bite of the abalone in the picture below.

And then while roaming around the casino, I chanced upon a restaurant in there, went it to take a look, and it happened the sky was quite clear, so I managed to take a picture of the outdoor theme park from that location. Here:

So leave the next part of the trip (KL) for the next blog. More of pictures only actually, else this blog would be ultra-long.

Botak Jones

Dinner time, went with Karinna to meet Serene and Derrick.
This year, we didn't go tour together.
For the past 3 years, almost every year end, we went on tour together.

First, it was Hanoi (The famous Tsunami disaster year), and spent New Year Day there.
Then we went Bali the following year celebrating Christmas at some paddy field.
Last year, we were at Ho Chi Minh City, just before Christmas time.

This year, no where was planned. Just dinner.

So we had our dinner at Botak Jones. Some 'ang mo' started a coffee shop stall some time ago, and was reported on papers before. Now, the stall seemed to have expanded to a couple of places, and Bedok is a newly opened stall since 01 Dec 2007.
'Ang mo' food at coffee shop prices.

Well, it is not exactly expensive, and they give pretty big servings. Being 'ang mo', the serving has to be large.

I just took my usual 'Fish & Chips', because I am easy on such food. The less troublesome it is, the better.
Karinna took some beef burger, with double dose of beef! Greedy.
And that pint of HoeGarden beer, not mine. Guess whose?

Feng Shui

This morning we had a FengShui Master came to our house to check out our home. Generally, things were pretty alright. Some minor changes needed for the study room, and other room. Living room wise, have to think of a way to move the built-in shoe cabinet to elsewhere. That's a little tougher. Also, the fish tank for the cannibalistic turtle will have to find a new home.

Not sure how to go about yet, but shall leave that later until we come back from Genting/KL.
We're going to Genting tomorrow night, and will be back only Friday! :P

Maybe the fengshui will help us win more $$$ in Genting! ha ha ha

Then in the afternoon, went over to my sister's house to visit my parents. My little nephew Casper was also brought there. Think he has lost a bit of weight, not as chubby as the last time I saw him. Still cute lah, like me like that.

Fish Spa

Around 1030am, went to Fun Fair with Karinna. This fun fair was organised by my brother-in-law's church. So we had bought some $20 vouchers previously, and decided to go and spend them. Nothing great lah, normal fun fair. Just ate some food, then prepare to go elsewhere.

After that, we drove a long way to Jalan Lekar, Sungei Tengah. Ulu right? Yeah, went all the way to Qian Hu Aquarium. There's a fish spa there that cost only $10 for 30 minutes. Had read in papers some time ago, and wanted to do it. So just took the chance today to do this fish spa.

We just dipped our feet into the enclosed pond there. Then within dunno how many seconds, the fishes swam around our feet and start filling their tummies with our dead skin on the foot. hehehe It was kinda itchy initially. The fishes just nimble nimble on your feet. Quite interesting lah.

Here's some pictures taken while we were sitting by the spa place.

Came home, rested a while, then went for a jog. This time, Karinna joined me. She ran until 'up breath cannot catch up down breath'. :D
Still same short distance job, but aim is to build up stamina, so still ok!

Jogging

Today, after work came back home, first thing I do is to change into my sports gear. I'm a sportsman ok!?!?! :P

I went jogging. Haven't jogged for over a year already. Somemore, think need to do some exercise lah, else people might think I am a towkay because of the pot belly.

So being not so ambitious after hibernating for over a year, I only did a small round around my estate. Probably just over 1km+, didn't really know the actual distance, and also didn't take note of how much time I took to complete the round.

The aim was to finish the round without stopping.

So off I went after doing a short warm up. Think didn't do enough warm up, then my right knee felt pretty tired, and sometimes a little painful. Anyway, I just endured the occasional pain, a bit limping at times like that, still managed to complete the full round without stopping.

Was a little tired to climb up the stairs, so took the lift up back home.

Tired like hell man.

S.H.E. - 我爱你

I was listening to my iPod this morning while taking the MRT to work.
Of course, the songs are from my collections ...

Then I heard this song.
S.H.E. - 我爱你

Then I remembered I saw the MTV once. Very very touching MTV, and likely to earn some teardrops from most people who have seen it before.
Get some tissues if you want to watch it. Seriously. :)
Here goes:

曲 Geoman Villalon from SweetBox 词 姚若龙

And here is the original English version of the song, by SweetBox.

More Than Love
Artist: Sweetbox
Composer: Idk

I know your dreams
I know your cries
Each breath I've memorized
And I would do anything
To help you win your fight
But it's not enough to make you smile
It's never enough
But what more can I give

More than love
More than this
More than what's in these two hands
More than love
More than me
But I can't give more than I am...
More than I am...

I see the searching in your eyes
And I feel helpless by your side
So many spaces I can't fill, but God knows how hard I try
You say you need more and I die inside
You always need more
But what more can I give?

More than love
More than this
More than what's in these two hands
More than love
More than me
Cause I can't give more than I am
No matter what I do it's never good enough for you

Ah Lian(s)

Yesterday, while doing a little bit of clearing stuff (too much rubbish at home), found a small portion of a chain we bought years ago for using with the gate lock.

Then being Karinna, she hooked it up and put it on Precious.

We thought Precious was very happy with the 'gift'! Actually, she is. Still is, that's what we feel. Must be very cool huh?

As usual, the jealous pot Sapphire cannot tahan, keep chasing Precious trying to bite the chain off her like that. Of course never get succeeded lah.

After a while, the chain changed owner, and the coolness went to Sapphire.

Cool right? hehehe

So these are the 2 Ah Lian(s) in my home ...

The chain will be gone soon ...

Aston Prime

Remember few weeks back, I blogged an entry on Aston Specialties.

Today, Karinna and I went to Aston again. This time, we went for the other branch located just a short distance away from Aston Specialties.
It's called Aston Prime. Prime because it charges you prime rate. :P

Since at the prime place, we ordered the prime food. The 'Celebrities Steak - Wagyu'. And boy, it's a Grade9 Wagyu beef! We ordered quite a few things actually, eat until I still feel like vomitting now. Maybe I am just pregnant ...

This is "Maryland Crab Cakes". Very nice 'cake'. It's a little on pricey side, but I think it is pretty worth a try.

Here's another picture of the 'cake'. This time, with the full 'leaf view' intact. :P

Forgotten to take a pciture of the full "Chicken Quesadilla". Left just a tiny little piece which I took the picture before I walloped it up.

Of course, everything comes with a price. And the priciest of them all, the Wagyu beef! And here's the savoury Wagyu ...

There you go, my lovely wife getting the first bite of wagyu. Melts in her mouth. *Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp*

Of course, cannot spend too much money on wagyu, so my order was "Honey Bourbon Ribs". My honey ordered for me.

And I topped it with my "IBC Import Root Beer". Thirsty you know.

So the dinner was very filling. Damn full.
Damage wise, $137.10! Hmmmm. About two-third of that goes to the wagyu!

X'mas Lunch

Originally wanted to get a chalet in December, perhaps to have some BBQ for my family blahblahblah.

Then my nieces chided me for 'always say, but never do'.
@$3%^%$^&%%@#$%^$^&*&^%3
No big no small.

Of course, too late to book for December school holiday period. So to make-do with it this time round, we'll have X'mas Lunch at our small home. hehehe

So yesterday I SMS-ed my siblings and brother-in-law to tell them come over my place on X'mas day.

Haven't exactly decided what to eat for that lunch.

Curry chicken.
Fried Bee Hoon.
Fried sotong balls.
Some KFCs ...
X'mas log cake ... (can use as a belated birthday cake for my mom ...) haha
what else ???
hmmm.... headache leh
Otah again?

Still got time to decide...no fret.

Electrifying

Few months back, town council changed the electrical meter outside our home.
It used to be that black meter box exposed out for all to see blahblahblah.

Now, it's enclosed in a box, of course, still able to see the meter running.

Looks elegant right? Picture may be so, but since it is white in colour, it is actually quite dirty right now. May not be clear from the picture though.

The top part can actually be opened, and there are 2 smaller compartments inside.

The one on the right, which I opened it, is called something like 'Customer Switch'.
WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

What does that mean? If I push that switch down to 'OFF' mode, does that mean my power supply at home will be switched off?
If any Tom, Dick, Harry passes by my home, and just anyhow push it down, am I supposed to live in darkness until I push it back to 'ON' mode?

I have no idea, as I haven't really 'tested' it out yet.

Hope I am wrong, otherwise, the darn relevant authority ought to be shot in their head. OOooops. That would be their ass. hehehe

Mahjong

Yesterday that Ninja sms-ed to say play mahjong. So arranged evening time to come over my house with his wife Christina and Tutti.

That's for the night time.

In the afternoon, had to go to my ex-colleague's daughter's first month celebration. Drove all the way to Warren, and boy, that's over 30km drive from home! Petrol is expensive nowadays ok! hehehe

Since we were at Warren, Karinna decided to drop by at her friend's place. Visit the little kids as well. The boys are getting bigger now, and pretty hyper-active too.

So we loiter at Warren until about 4pm then drive back home.

Came back home start cooking some chicken wings, some vegetables, somce rice. Nowadays groceries are getting expensive, cannot cook too much. For the few coming over for dinner, chin chai chin chai lah. hahaha
Let them go hungry better, then they cannot concentrate, then play mahjong lose to me! Brilliant!

No lah. I usually don't play unless no kaki enough. Furthermore, my mother-in-law probably hand itchy after a long time of hibernation from mahjong games.
So after the dinner, Ninja & wife & Tutti plus my mother-in-law then engaged in the four-wall-city war.

Seems like they played rather slow. Started at about 2030hrs probably, and finished close to 0230am. That's only 2 rounds of games. There must be some slow kakis somewhere ... :P

In the end, the husband & wife team lost to the other 2 individuals.

Next week another round of mahjong when Karinna's other friends coming over this coming Sunday ...

Holiday

We were supposedly planning to go Hong Kong + Macau this December.
Tried book ticket online, no seats available for the dates we chose. And somehow, the price on the web is like rocket sky-high! Can cost close to $2000 just for flight to HK. Crazy!

So was looking at classified sections yesterday. Saw some advertisement on tours to China. So we thought of opting for Kunming/Dali/Lijiang. Went down to the travel agency, and was told all flights were full already.

No seats available this December for anywhere around the region any more, except Malaysia and Indonesia ... ... ... ... So exciting.

Therefore, we just browse through some packages, and chose Genting/KL. Took that package, and extended 1 more day in Genting. So it's gonna be 2 nights in Genting, and 1 night in KL. Genting first, then KL.
Genting we just leave it as First World, hope we would be allocated the newer wing of First World when we reach there. It is still small, but at least much better than the old wing ...
For KL, we upgraded the hotel to Berjaya Times Square. We were there 2 years+ ago, very nice hotel then. Hopefully, this time round it remains so.

So we're set. We'll leave on 17 Dec night, spend 18/19 Dec in Genting then 20 Dec in KL, and back to Singapore on 21 Dec.

Damage? Hmmmm. $506.

S-POP

Today, on my way back home, I went to walk around Tampines Mall for a while.

I was looking for the new Xin Yao CD Compilation series, 那一段日子. It will come in 5 series actually. Only first series is out so far. Each series will have about 60 songs, so a total of 300 songs at end of Series 5.

Here's what I got:

Not cheap ok! Cost me $65.90! So expensive. I didn't expected it to be so expensive also. @#$%&^*&#@$%#$&^*&#$
Then, must support a bit lah. hehehe

Then I browse around the shop further, and saw these:

It's Soda Green (苏打绿). One is an album, 小宇宙. Another is a CD single, 迟到千年. They come as 2-in-1 for the price of $9.90, so I just buy and try try. :). I only heard one of their songs on radio before, which I find rather refreshing. I don't even know the title of that song.

Gila? Yeah. Sometimes.

Pregnant Instinct

Wow! Don't play play with pregnant woman's instinct!

This is the first time in Deal Or No Deal (namely, DOND) a contestant actually chosen the $250,000 case!
Of course, in the end she didn't win that money. Still walked away with $40,000.
Decent enough really.

But wow! Wow! WOW!

Dragon News

News these few days were all about the dragon boat team tragedy.

Not that I am heartless (actually I am), but they keep harping on the same old thing. Standard answer from officials will always be investigations will be carried out thoroughly blahblahblah ... ...
Questions will always be raised on why never wear life jacket blahblahblah ...
In future, regardless of places, must wear life jacket blahblahblah ...

I mean, some accidents are accidents. And I do agree that they should wear life jackets. Afterall, such sport has a higher chance of danger, so precaution is necessary.

If the reason for the boat to be capsized is true accident, then whether the rowers wear life jacket or not will have small impact only. If any water current is strong enough to pull you down, I believe you wear 10 jackets will also be fruitless. The forces of nature is enough to kill.
What is left would only be luck. If you're lucky, water current may push you upwards as well, and you would be saved.

Having said that, it is still better to wear life jackets. Safety first.

However, let's not hope that it will be forced in EVERYTHING. Otherwise, in future if you board a plane, you may be forced to wear and inflate the life jacket.
Just in case ... ... :P

To end it here, may the five souls rest in peace.

Fly. Flight? Fright!

Over the weekend, there was an upgrade going on for one of the customers.
So today, went down to check out the status. Seemed to be going on quite ok, so left my colleague to continue dealing with the post-upgrade work.

After that, went down to another customer site. This project just about to start, and should take about 2 months plus. Brought another of my colleague along, as she will be the main person working on it. So today had to bring her there to settle some of the logistic issues with the client.
Getting the notebook hooked onto customer's domain, getting card pass for accessing the project room etc.

By the time settle this and that, it was like almost 2pm. Then I decided to go home, and get my hair cut before going home too. Hair is getting too darn long already.

So now my hair is neat neat. Should be neater, as it was neat neat all along. :)
Of course, hamsomER too. hehehehe

Then evening time, was watching the S-POP Hurray show. As it goes down the Xinyao road, bring back lots of memories. The songs are cool. I still have some of those cassettes and CDs with me.
Think there's a new compilation just realised yet again, probably will get a copy of it. Support local acts mah. I'm an avid supporter!

After that, was doing a bit of work, and then ... ... ...
Tried searching to book flight to Hong Kong. We wanted to go Hong Kong for holiday is mid-December. Yes. It is a little late to book, and it's really hard to get flight now ok! N
Now have no idea where we'll land to for the holiday.

Blk233 is an idea ... ...

Cars

Finally, took me a long time to get the pictures of the car accident.

First of all, not sure how to activate infra-red on the computer anymore. :P
Keep trying and keep failing. @!#$%%&^$%#$%#^%#$^

Don't really know how to use MMS, so I ignore that option.

Next option is bluetooth.

So total 3 options from Karinna's mobile phone.

Didn't want to activate bluetooth also, as I only use it when I need to have hands-free when I drive.

So die die must use bluetooth to transfer the pictures. Seem to be the easier way for me to get the pictures anyway.

So here they are, just 4 pictures.
See how minor injury is the victim's car.

Accident

This morning, I didn't go with Karinna when she left for office.
She needed to be in office early for some meeting, while I am not needed to be early!

Then she called back around just past 8 to say she scared scared.
Reason, her car 'kissed' another car. blahblahblah...
It was at some traffic light, and when it turned green, she moved on without waiting for the car in front to move ... then ... ... :P
Too early huh? Dreaming huh? ...

Well, actually the accident was nothing serious. Our car's front carplate was somehow dented. Otherwise, solid Nissan Sunny is in perfect condition.
The other car, a Honda City, was actually not too seriously injured as well. Its right bumper was a little dislodged. From the look of it, nothing serious at all.
So she had to rush, and so exchanged some details with the other driver, and moved on to her office.

So, no one was inured, just some bumper dislocation.

It should be easy to settle without insurance claim.

Too optimistic. When she called back the other owner, he claimed his car boot cannot be opened, and he wants to claim against our insurance. Tried to settle it privately, and he asked for $1,500!!!!!

!@#$@&*%^&^%#@@%^$&%(*)&)&*&$#^@$@!#%^%(&)(*&^#%$#@%$$^*&(&
他妈的! 贪得无厌!

I guess there'll always be people who take advantage of situation. But seriously, even if he claim insurance, I'm ok. At most just lose a bit of NCB, back to 20% perhaps. Fine.
Will insurance really pay him $1,500? Some kinda of cuckoo brain. But if insurance really pays him that, insurance cuckoo brain then.

So had to go to IDAC with Karinna in the afternoon to report the accident. At least record with them and let my car insurance company be aware of the possible claim.

Karinna did take some pictures of the cars, but it's on her mobile, so I am not able to upload the pictures for all to see. To see how minor the accident is. Car starts from stationery to moving can't have big impact at all ...

Work, work & work

See? I have been inactive in my blog right?
Nope. Didn't strike Toto.
Nope. Didn't go ulu place where there's not much internet connectivity.
Nope. Not busy until cannot breathe.
Yes. Lazy.

Anyway, been quite a normally-hectic week.
Monday had to arrange with my other colleages to take over a colleague's tasks due to his national service. So I stayed around to work things out with them.

Co-ordination was somehow ... ... ... terok.

So continued on Tuesday, was just doing periodic checks on the system.
Another colleague, who was doing a Proof Of Concept to a customer on BIA, had problems with the BIA. So I had to 'fly' down to Jurong side to help.
Although managed to get the things to work, but the BIA effect was not tremendous.
Queries were still slow, but were already much better than when queries were run without BIA.
Wednesay is the actual POC to the customers' key users. I wasn't there. Was back at the support location to check how things were going with other colleague.

Well. Each side had its own fair share of problems, as long as whatever comes, deal it with a parang. Oooooops! Sound like a hooligan.

Yesterday went to another customer's site, to continue their BW implementation. Was supposed to show them the idea of what needs to be done to get the data ready etc, in the end, in turned out to be another 'training' session.
I think that's normal, afterall, they don't know BW well yet.
I also don't know well, just a bit better. hehe

Today was a little more relax. Just working on resolving the issues faced in the past few days. My colleague was able to resolve them more or less, so I don't think I need to be there often.

Just hope the upgrade can be completed sooner and can go holiday!

Ahhh yes. Where shall I head to for holiday this time round?

Baby Shower

Weather hot, so need to have showers.
Don't be stupid eh? :P

Today went to my brother's home, coz' his new born baby Matthew is having his one-month old celebration. Matthew Baby Shower!

Haven't seen him for almost 1 month, because had been a little busy over the last few weekends actually.

So today, went to pick up my mother to bring her over to my brother's place also. I'm part time chauffeur at times.

So took the chance to snap some pictures. Somehow, more pictures were taken on Casper. Ooooooops. Casper bui bui lah, then more people want to carry him.
When Casper was one-month old, also keep sleeping, but he was already quite bui then.
Matthew needs to eat more and more and more ... ... ...

So here are the pictures taken!

Also, Karinna baked Chocolate Brownies, and brought it over with some vanilla ice cream for my nieces and nephews. Got special request from Pauline to have extra toppings.
If she wants more toppings, next time I can add my droppings. hehehe

Cannot be unfair to Matthew, I took a video clip of him. But one-month old baby cannot play much with you yet.

Internet

I am now at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. That's Jakarta airport lah. :P

While I was here the last few times, never managed to get any 'free' internet access in the airport.

Today don't know why, just tried searching and seems to have something available. So I hijacked the access, and seems to work fine. :P
Else there's won't be this message here.

Usually, when waiting for the time to board the plane, I'll just go somewhere to have a drink, and yes, I am having Mocca Frappucino now. So in the meantime, I'll hook on my laptop to finish up my expense claim for the trip.
This way, time is saved, and I won't forget.
At most forget to print out and send in for reimbursement, but unlikely to happen huh?
Money makes the world go round, and it definitely makes my head spin round most of the times too. In terms of how to make more .... :)
Toto! Toto! TOTO!

Anyone want to share with me? :)

Lao ... ... ... ... sai ...

It's been a little hectic.
Well, actually not quite lah. Still managed to leave work about 7+ pm.

So while at Jakarta, there's really not much place to roam around. Furthermore, it's not exactly the safest place to walk around.

So we usually come back to the apartment place, and eat at some restuarant downstairs. Don't expect great food though, but I'm not too choosy when comes to eat at whichever place.

Just gobble down the food and move on. Life must go on. :P

Then yesterday got a little bit of lao-sai feeling. But ok lah, not so bad for me, once is good enough.
My colleague terok, yesterday keep visiting toilet. :P

Today much better already.
Tomorrow should be in good shape. Going back Singapore soon!
Alright!

Flying

Woke up early.
No choice.
Have to catch the plane soon.

Still need to go pootpoot before leaving home. hehehe

Then yesterday night quite heavy rain, so kept the dogs in our room so that they will not be scared.

Time for breakfast soon.
Care to join me?

I mean in Jakarta ... :P

Fold Clothes

Saw this on youtube.

It's cool to make folding clothes look so simple.
And it works actually.

Too bad I just 'anyhow' pack my clothes into luggage.
Tomorrow going Jakarta again. *Yawn*

East Coast

After lunch, drove Karinna to Balestiar area to see Chinese sinseh. She's still coughing and having flu since Monday/Tuesday.

After that, went to buy groceries at NTUC at Balestiar Plaza. Yes. Groceries again. So scary huh?

Then went back home to put the stuff. After a while, I decided to bring Precious out.
So I deliberately make Sapphire sort of angry, by not taking her out. She's a jealous pot.

Put on the leash for Precious only, this Sapphire keep chasing Precious and wanting to bite the leash off Precious. Kinda hilarious too. hehehe

So I drove Precious, Karinna and myself to East Coast. :P

Quite some time didn't walk along east coast area. Getting the breeze hit onto your face can be quite refreshing.
We saw people windsurfing, and there's this sport where they have some form of 'parachute' which will glide the people along. Kinda like para-sailing, just that, this time, no boat to put you into the sky, and it's actually sailing on the sea and not up in the sky.

See the pictures if you cannot understand what I mean here.
Also, a few more pictures taken for Precious, off my mobile.
And a video of her flowing hair, as the wind breezed in ...

Facebook

Few weeks back, received an email from an old friend. Catherine Tan.
We were close buddies during my initial Uni-days.

As usual, people lose contacts on and off.
Anyway, it's always good to hear from old friends. Maybe people just love to think of the good old past. But it's good. Think of the good, and drop the bad. That will make our life easier, and happier.

Well, we chatted a while on the internet.
She was telling me to get onto Facebook, the latest social network hip thing in the world. And she managed to link to old friends, like the forever heow Exodus Ho. Probably Hans should be in there somewhere. I made a search, and yes, he is there, just not using the name Hans. Fan Yeng Loon should be him.
I didn't make a lot of search for friends though, did some, some appeared, some not.
Guess not many are internet savvy huh?

And I know Karinna also signed up on Facebook. An ex-colleague of hers put her into it. hehe
And my wife hor, don't know how to look for people. Whomever friends she added on her Facebook account, those friends are the ones who added her. My wife is blur like sotong.

Will I get Facebook account?
Hmmmm.

I'll think about it.
Just like how I started this blog.

Takes a hell of a long time to say 'Yes'.

Utilities Bill

Today received the utility bill for the month of October.

Since end-Sept, my mother-in-law came back from the medi-care centre, and my maid was moved back to my home to help take care of her, and do the usual housechores.

So early Oct, a lot of cleaning was done by my maid.

For October, air-cons are switched on in 2 rooms (does it matter if only 1 or 2 or 3 rooms are switched on?).
More loads of washing on washing machine.
More electric used with more rice cooking and water boiling etc.

This month, the bill went up almost twice. Now at about $191. :P
In hokkien, I will say, 'Jing Yao Siu'!
In malay, I will say 'Tak Boleh Tahan'!
In cantonese, it's 'Yao Mou Gao Chor'!
In cheena, that should be '他妈的'!

I need to buy more Toto!

Issues and Demo

Yesterday was slightly busy. Was at customer's site working on the BW project.
Somehow, I feel the solution is not very elegant, but have already stepped onto it, and probably not so easy to switch to another solution in a short time.

And to top it all, now I think I will have some issues regarding getting some form of classifications within the data. As usual, I won't go deeper into it, as it doesn't make sense to most people, including me. :D

Well, today went back office, as the customer didn't want me to stay too many days at their site. Chargeable. So to reduce cost, they wanted a bit of logical stop to it, and then to recall me back when they are ready as well.
Basically, they have to work on the system too, else they will have a hard time in future to support it.

Anyway, was back in office trying to figure out some of the other issues faced for the project. Not very good result after the search. So now I have to think of some other alternative to resolve the issues.
Sigh. 真的是。。。伤脑筋噢!

And tomorrow, will be heading to another site to test demo system, prior to actual demo presentation to another customer.

Work can be so fun. NOT.

Eventful Day

Morning received a SMS from my NUS friend Yee Loon. He said he setup a car boot sale stall at Downtown East selling 2nd CDs, and asked me to go down if I am free.

So went down with Karinna around 11am. The place was a little crowded, quite hot too, as it's under the sun. Managed to find that bugger, and chitchat for a while before we leave for our next destination.
Anyway, selling old CDs away is pretty good idea to clear things from home. Things tend to get too cluttered at home, if no effort is done to do housekeeping. That's why I don't buy that many CDs nowadays. Listen from the radio is already good enough, else there's always internet.

Next, we moved on to Jalan Kayu to take a quick lunch. Ate chicken murtabak and beehoon goreng, plus drinks. Total damage: $11.80. Not cheap eh?

Then, we went to Cisco office. Karinna's laptop got problem, somehow cannot login from home. I know it's something related to some corrupt file in her laptop, but it's better to leave it to Cisco's IT support to resolve it rather than the home IT expert, which is me lah. hehehe
Anyway, so we went to her office, and she called up the IT support to help troubleshooting the problem.
About an hour plus later, still cannot fully resolve the issue. The IT support managed to provide a workaround though. That is, DO NOT shutdown the laptop when go home, just leave it as standby or hibernation mode, so that the computer can still allow her to logon onto the PC back at home.
Just as I expected. Maybe tomorrow they will tell her they need to format her harddisk, and re-build her laptop from backup. :P

After that, we went to her colleague's son 4th year old birthday party at Dempsey Road. The place is called 'Go Go Bambini'. This is the first time I go to Dempsey, and I don't think I can understand why people want to go there. So troublesome to go there you know?
This 'Go Go Bambini' place is basically a place for kids to play around with. To be more specific, it is just like an indoor playground. They have some rooms to allow birthday celebrations to be done. Kids' money are easy to earn, not just woman's money.

Took just a few pictures there. I think I didn't take any picture of the birthday boy though.
The baby Karinna was carrying in the picture belongs to another colleague of hers.

The boy quite cute lah. He kept looking at me so often that I felt a bit shy also. hehehe.
Actually, the pictures were taken off my phone, and it seems like it's pretty well taken. Maybe the lightings in that room makes the photo looks ok.

We left around 5pm+, and on the way back, stopover at Giant Hypermart at Tampines. Bought things again lah. Nowadays, things are used up pretty fast at home. Used to buy 1kg of rice, which will last us about a year. Now my mother-in-law and my maid are staying here since 3 weeks plus ago, I think we have already bought close to 15 or 20 kg of rice. Other daily home groceries are not counted in yet too ...

Sigh.
Na si wa wu jit ba banh ... ... jit ba banh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Alphaville - Forever Young

The power of internet.

Still in some mood for songs, so I decided to look for one of my favourite song of all time, Forever Young by Alphavilla.
I have a lot, a lot, a lot of different versions of the song.

And this the first time I saw the music video of the song!

I once had a seconday school friend Gregory Ong, who bluffed us about the video showing a baby born in 1970, then when it's 1980, still show the same baby face, come 1990, stil lthe same thing ....and goes on and on.
Ka na sai eh? :P

So here it is, the music video from the 80s.

And to top it all, there's a music video for the remix version of the song.
Forever Young (Special Dance Version).

Maybe I will look around for more others. A little bit of cheap thrill here. hehe.

=====================================================

Forever Young - Alphaville

Let's dance in style, lets dance for a while
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders we're getting in tune
The music's played by the mad men

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever? Forever young

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young

It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?

冬天里的一把火

Well, was in the mood to look for some songs. I found this rendition of 冬天里的一把火 by the Project Superstar Contestants from Series 1. :P

Kinda cute for viewing. That's all.

Feel like putting a hokkien song today. So here it is, courtesy of movie 881.

Rantings

Have not been posting anything for the past few days.
No excuse. Just lazy.

It is true that it's been busy few days, but I always believe no matter how busy, you should be able to find some time some where.
Else, how to pang sai? hahaha

Well, weekend was simply good for lazing around. Mondays are blues. Tuesdays are more blues, and Wednesdays can't be cool. Thursdays you won't feel blue, and Fridays are simply boons!

Pardon the crap.

Seriously, have been wrecking my brains hard with the project I am doing. Not too hard, but hard enough for my small brain. hehehe
At least, now things look a little brighter, hopefully it can stay that way till end of the project.

Work can never end ...

Sunday

Today was a busy day.

8am. A call came. The system we are monitoring seems to give problem to my colleague. So have to wake up, and check it out. As per my colleague, the system indeed behave oddly. Upon checking, it is due to some additional huge load of data the client is running, which causes the system loading to behave that way.
So I taught my colleauge how to perform some 'cheat mode' to get the loadings done. But that's quite a painful way, and rather tedious.
Shall not go into detail, but if any one interested, feel free to email me and I shall elaborate. hehehe
Siow!

Meanwhile, I helped in checking the system, then it's almost lunch time. After lunch, freed myself from work, and went to visit my father. Also, to help my nephew restore his darn slow PC. Managed to restore his PC, but somehow something was amiss. System was still darn slow, and seems like it still has the previous data in the system despite doing restore!

No time to deal with it further. Have to become a chauffeur to drive my father, sister, nephew and my wife to visit my new born nephew Matthew.
So off we go. Zoooooooooooooooooooom.

Reached there, baby can only come out at around 4pm.
Zoooooooooom. Go drink kopi downstairs.
Zoooooooooom. Baby come out liow, go up see see.
Zoooooooooom. Go home around 5.

Then went back home pick up my old Altec Lansing sound system (with booster) to give to my nephew Benjamin.
Zoooooooooom. Back at his home to re-fix the darn slow computer.
This time, I angry (like the Hulk like that hor!) and restore the system again, but using advance option this time. Damn stupid restoration only allow formatting with advance option.
Who in the stupid world need to do a system restore without formatting the harddisk?

Anyway, this time, the restore looks much better. System gets cleared, was performing quite alright in the beginning.

Then started loading Avira antivirus, started making the system able to download updates from Microsoft site etc.
Reboot.
Slow.
*ptui*

My guess is that due to option to make system download updates, the system was exactly doing that, and since it's a restore from a pretty old system, there must be quite a lot of updates to be done.

So left the system there, still slow performance when I left. Almost 8pm liow ok.

Zoooooooom. Back home.
After makan, made some quick check on the monitoring work just to see things are back in order. Pretty ok except for a small issue.

Well. So much for a Sunday.
Thought I should be relaxing ...

And darn! Tomorrow is Monday.
I love Mondays ... ... ...

Matthew

First, it was National Day baby, Casper.
Now, it's Hari Raya Puasa baby, Matthew.

Yes. The newest addition to the Tay Family is here. Matthew. At least that's what my brother has decided to call his baby boy.

Baby arrived at 2.41pm weighs 2.9kg
More pictures at my flickr site.

Next, can't do without a short video taken as well right?
Here it is.
