Goodbye 2007

Actually, didn't want to post any blog entry today.
But since it is the last day of the year, just give face to blogspot a bit. hehe.

As expected, today was kind of slow moving day. Lots of people on leave or holiday mood I guess.

I only went to a partner's office to get some software, have to start learning new things in the coming 2008! So exciting! NOT.

Thereafter, go back office idle idle a bit, then left.

Later, we'll be going to a friend's house to have some form of 'countdown'.
My maths not so good nowadays. Give me toes to count ok?

Well, that's it for the year. Good year, bad year, doesn't matter. It's ending. Just try to make the coming year a good one!

Count on me Simon Tay ...
Count on me to give my best and more ...
*poot poot* :)

Wedding Lunch

Today went to Edmund's wedding. It's a lunch. Went to Hyatt around 12pm.
I was not the first to be there. When I reached there, Herman, PuiKwan, Alice were already there. Francis was one of the bridegroom's Brothers, so he was much more formally attired.

Slowly, people stroll in.

So we seated and waited until about 1pm, then the lunch started. Just before the ceremony started, a familiar figure came into the room. She walked quite fast to her seat actually. She is the Best Actress of MediaCorp Star Awards 2007, 林湘萍!
She is so beautiful! My idol! Yeah!

Of course she's didn't do anything or go on stage. Otherwise, she would have taken the limelight away. Leave that to the bride.

During the third dish or so, I went toilet. When I was walking back to my seat, Edmund and his wife came out. They were going to change into another outfit. Then this lady came running (elegantly ... *wink*) from behind. As she ran, she said 'hello' to some aunties in front of me, and then shouted softly and the bride and bridegroom to wait for her. She is 林湘萍 lah. She and I brushed shoulders with each other. *giggle*

Ahhh. Then the lunch became good. ha ha ha.

This wedding lunch got no 'yum seng'. But somehow, when the wedding couple came to our table, the idiots at my table want to 'yum seng'. So I acted as a loudhailer for a while, and did it again at the next table. These 2 tables were all my ex-colleagues from Triaton/HP days.

On my way home, my shoe broke. The sole part dropped off. I had to walk sllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy to take a bus instead of walking home. Cartoon. And it rained. CARTOON.

怀旧卡通

Thanks to the "Fathers of Internet" Vinc Cerf & Robert Kahn, we have internet available for us to use in the modern days. And to the "Father of World Wide Web", Tim Berners Lee, for enabling the use of WWW, that brings the overwhelming success of communication via internet.

Internet has a whole wealth of information, it's simply unbelievable.

Today, my backside itchy again, I searched for cartoons that I watched years ago.
Yes. You guessed it, I am able to find some of the stuff, and some are pretty cool too.

If you are 50/60, your children (if any) would know this. If you are 30/40, you probably grew up with this. If you are below 30, you probably missed it a little, and if young enough, your parents would know this.

小甜甜

This blog entry has some information about the cartoon itself.

科學小飛俠 - One of my favourite when I was young. Gatchaman.

龍龍與忠狗

小寶歷險記 - Can still remember the first line of the song!

There are a lot more out there, didn't really get to find all of them out.
There's even episodes that you can view on 小甜甜, but it is in Japanese, with no subtitles.

Next time then I see if I have the mood to find more ...

Ah Ma's Birthday

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. Went over at around 6+pm. before that, we went to Bedok buy some pork knuckles. Bought only 2, as I thought there would be quite a lot of food.

There was my pork knuckles, and they have chilli crabs, chicken feet and KFC. The KFC came quite late, so there was a time where people were just waiting for food.

Quite noisy with so many kids around, especially when loud speaker Melvin is there. Ha ha ha.

Who was not there? Deon, who has to work, and Benjamin, who was on the way back home from Malaysia. Benjamin only reached home around 10+pm, quite late compared to our timing the day before.

Only reached home around 1am, because my sisters want to gamble, so I have to chip in to make it 4 persons. Chin chai lah, long long 1 time is no problem for me.
That Brenda and Melvin kept giving funny reasons to their parents in order to go home earlier. hehehe.
Taxi fare more expensive after 12midnight. Who dunno? D'uh!

Next, it shall be the X'mas Lunch at my home.
I think I'll give each and everybody ONE piece of fishball to eat enough already. :D

Walking In The Air

While at Borders in KL earlier, I heard a familiar song which I have not heard for a long time. Beautiful sound I must say.

So I decided to search for the familiar song on the net, and to my surprise, it was written for a cartoon. You can read more about this here.

And there's even the part of the cartoon story with the song in You Tube! Amazing!

Walking in the Air

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you

Far across the wold
The villages go by like trees
the rivers and the hills
The forest and the streams

Children gaze open mouth
Taken by suprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes

We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy
mountains floating by

Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep
Arousing of a mighty monster from its sleep

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

Berjaya Times Square Encounter

We left Genting yesterday noon. Reached KL close to 2pm. While trying to check-in into the hotel (Berjaya Times Square, we were there 2.5 years ago!), one familiar face appeared beside me. No no, I don't mean Karinna. It's my nephew, Benjamin!
吓死我了!

Apparently, he went to Penang on Monday night, and down to KL before going back Singapore. He went with his friend, and his friend's parents.
The world can be quite small sometimes ...

So after check-in, we left for lunch, then went shopping around Lot10 and Sungei Wang. Sungei Wang is too crowded for me, not my type of place. Kinda stuffy at some places too. But everytime we go KL, somehow we will appear there also. Dunno why.

After that, went back to Berjaya Times Square. At least it's a more comfortable place to shop.

Rest. Took dinner. Rest. Benjamin didn't call me, as he said his friend would be too lonely if he joined us. Nevermind lah, I have my wife with me what ... :P

Wanted to join him for breakfast, but somehow he was at the different tower wing of the hotel. So asked him to come to my room after breakfast.
He just came a short while, then left to meet his friend to go out. He's staying there 1 more day than us.

So me and Karinna went out for last minute shopping, bought a bit of things (mostly not mine :P), and had to go back to get ready for check-out.

And so, here we are, back home after a few hours of ride.

Below are some pictures taken in Berjaya Times Square. Very long never take pictures with Chrismas Tree ... hehehe

Back Home

Just came back home not more than 2 hrs ago.
Journey back was pretty ok. Left around 3pm, and reached Singapore about late 7+pm, then 8+pm at Beach Road.

WE left for Genting on 17 Dec night, somehow it was slower, the driver stopped at a few places, and we reach Genting around 5am. No hurry, as cannot check-in at that time anyway.
It was ages ago since we last brought camera along with us when we go Genting. This time, however, I just brought along. :P
Here's the lobby area where the coach stopped for us at First World Hotel.

First 2 days at Genting, my luck pretty bad. Play whatever, seems to be only losing, and not much winnings in sight. I just played jackpot for fun, no table gambling this time round. Only on third day, which is the day we were going down to Kuala Lumpur, my luck turned slightly better. I even got a "Minor Jackpot", and win RM78+! Yeah!
Oeverall, still lose money, as usual.
Karinna's luck was somehow opposite of mine. She was pretty ok in the first 2 days, but eventually donated back (and more) to Genting.

The room was good, we were allocated Tower 2, the newer wing at First World. We were on level 18, room 921.

Some pictures taken around the First World Theme Park.

And then, as usual with Karinna's appetite, she likes to eat the Ah Yat restaurant whenever we go Genting. We ordered ONE set (guess who took the set), and some dim sum. Here's some pictures to whip up your appetite. :D
There's abalone, shark's fin soup, bird nest egg tart. She's taking that first bite of the abalone in the picture below.

And then while roaming around the casino, I chanced upon a restaurant in there, went it to take a look, and it happened the sky was quite clear, so I managed to take a picture of the outdoor theme park from that location. Here:

So leave the next part of the trip (KL) for the next blog. More of pictures only actually, else this blog would be ultra-long.

Botak Jones

Dinner time, went with Karinna to meet Serene and Derrick.
This year, we didn't go tour together.
For the past 3 years, almost every year end, we went on tour together.

First, it was Hanoi (The famous Tsunami disaster year), and spent New Year Day there.
Then we went Bali the following year celebrating Christmas at some paddy field.
Last year, we were at Ho Chi Minh City, just before Christmas time.

This year, no where was planned. Just dinner.

So we had our dinner at Botak Jones. Some 'ang mo' started a coffee shop stall some time ago, and was reported on papers before. Now, the stall seemed to have expanded to a couple of places, and Bedok is a newly opened stall since 01 Dec 2007.
'Ang mo' food at coffee shop prices.

Well, it is not exactly expensive, and they give pretty big servings. Being 'ang mo', the serving has to be large.

I just took my usual 'Fish & Chips', because I am easy on such food. The less troublesome it is, the better.
Karinna took some beef burger, with double dose of beef! Greedy.
And that pint of HoeGarden beer, not mine. Guess whose?

Feng Shui

This morning we had a FengShui Master came to our house to check out our home. Generally, things were pretty alright. Some minor changes needed for the study room, and other room. Living room wise, have to think of a way to move the built-in shoe cabinet to elsewhere. That's a little tougher. Also, the fish tank for the cannibalistic turtle will have to find a new home.

Not sure how to go about yet, but shall leave that later until we come back from Genting/KL.
We're going to Genting tomorrow night, and will be back only Friday! :P

Maybe the fengshui will help us win more $$$ in Genting! ha ha ha

Then in the afternoon, went over to my sister's house to visit my parents. My little nephew Casper was also brought there. Think he has lost a bit of weight, not as chubby as the last time I saw him. Still cute lah, like me like that.

Fish Spa

Around 1030am, went to Fun Fair with Karinna. This fun fair was organised by my brother-in-law's church. So we had bought some $20 vouchers previously, and decided to go and spend them. Nothing great lah, normal fun fair. Just ate some food, then prepare to go elsewhere.

After that, we drove a long way to Jalan Lekar, Sungei Tengah. Ulu right? Yeah, went all the way to Qian Hu Aquarium. There's a fish spa there that cost only $10 for 30 minutes. Had read in papers some time ago, and wanted to do it. So just took the chance today to do this fish spa.

We just dipped our feet into the enclosed pond there. Then within dunno how many seconds, the fishes swam around our feet and start filling their tummies with our dead skin on the foot. hehehe It was kinda itchy initially. The fishes just nimble nimble on your feet. Quite interesting lah.

Here's some pictures taken while we were sitting by the spa place.

Came home, rested a while, then went for a jog. This time, Karinna joined me. She ran until 'up breath cannot catch up down breath'. :D
Still same short distance job, but aim is to build up stamina, so still ok!

Jogging

Today, after work came back home, first thing I do is to change into my sports gear. I'm a sportsman ok!?!?! :P

I went jogging. Haven't jogged for over a year already. Somemore, think need to do some exercise lah, else people might think I am a towkay because of the pot belly.

So being not so ambitious after hibernating for over a year, I only did a small round around my estate. Probably just over 1km+, didn't really know the actual distance, and also didn't take note of how much time I took to complete the round.

The aim was to finish the round without stopping.

So off I went after doing a short warm up. Think didn't do enough warm up, then my right knee felt pretty tired, and sometimes a little painful. Anyway, I just endured the occasional pain, a bit limping at times like that, still managed to complete the full round without stopping.

Was a little tired to climb up the stairs, so took the lift up back home.

Tired like hell man.

S.H.E. - 我爱你

I was listening to my iPod this morning while taking the MRT to work.
Of course, the songs are from my collections ...

Then I heard this song.
S.H.E. - 我爱你

Then I remembered I saw the MTV once. Very very touching MTV, and likely to earn some teardrops from most people who have seen it before.
Get some tissues if you want to watch it. Seriously. :)
Here goes:

曲 Geoman Villalon from SweetBox 词 姚若龙

And here is the original English version of the song, by SweetBox.

More Than Love
Artist: Sweetbox
Composer: Idk

I know your dreams
I know your cries
Each breath I've memorized
And I would do anything
To help you win your fight
But it's not enough to make you smile
It's never enough
But what more can I give

More than love
More than this
More than what's in these two hands
More than love
More than me
But I can't give more than I am...
More than I am...

I see the searching in your eyes
And I feel helpless by your side
So many spaces I can't fill, but God knows how hard I try
You say you need more and I die inside
You always need more
But what more can I give?

More than love
More than this
More than what's in these two hands
More than love
More than me
Cause I can't give more than I am
No matter what I do it's never good enough for you

Ah Lian(s)

Yesterday, while doing a little bit of clearing stuff (too much rubbish at home), found a small portion of a chain we bought years ago for using with the gate lock.

Then being Karinna, she hooked it up and put it on Precious.

We thought Precious was very happy with the 'gift'! Actually, she is. Still is, that's what we feel. Must be very cool huh?

As usual, the jealous pot Sapphire cannot tahan, keep chasing Precious trying to bite the chain off her like that. Of course never get succeeded lah.

After a while, the chain changed owner, and the coolness went to Sapphire.

Cool right? hehehe

So these are the 2 Ah Lian(s) in my home ...

The chain will be gone soon ...

Aston Prime

Remember few weeks back, I blogged an entry on Aston Specialties.

Today, Karinna and I went to Aston again. This time, we went for the other branch located just a short distance away from Aston Specialties.
It's called Aston Prime. Prime because it charges you prime rate. :P

Since at the prime place, we ordered the prime food. The 'Celebrities Steak - Wagyu'. And boy, it's a Grade9 Wagyu beef! We ordered quite a few things actually, eat until I still feel like vomitting now. Maybe I am just pregnant ...

This is "Maryland Crab Cakes". Very nice 'cake'. It's a little on pricey side, but I think it is pretty worth a try.

Here's another picture of the 'cake'. This time, with the full 'leaf view' intact. :P

Forgotten to take a pciture of the full "Chicken Quesadilla". Left just a tiny little piece which I took the picture before I walloped it up.

Of course, everything comes with a price. And the priciest of them all, the Wagyu beef! And here's the savoury Wagyu ...

There you go, my lovely wife getting the first bite of wagyu. Melts in her mouth. *Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp*

Of course, cannot spend too much money on wagyu, so my order was "Honey Bourbon Ribs". My honey ordered for me.

And I topped it with my "IBC Import Root Beer". Thirsty you know.

So the dinner was very filling. Damn full.
Damage wise, $137.10! Hmmmm. About two-third of that goes to the wagyu!

X'mas Lunch

Originally wanted to get a chalet in December, perhaps to have some BBQ for my family blahblahblah.

Then my nieces chided me for 'always say, but never do'.
@$3%^%$^&%%@#$%^$^&*&^%3
No big no small.

Of course, too late to book for December school holiday period. So to make-do with it this time round, we'll have X'mas Lunch at our small home. hehehe

So yesterday I SMS-ed my siblings and brother-in-law to tell them come over my place on X'mas day.

Haven't exactly decided what to eat for that lunch.

Curry chicken.
Fried Bee Hoon.
Fried sotong balls.
Some KFCs ...
X'mas log cake ... (can use as a belated birthday cake for my mom ...) haha
what else ???
hmmm.... headache leh
Otah again?

Still got time to decide...no fret.

Electrifying

Few months back, town council changed the electrical meter outside our home.
It used to be that black meter box exposed out for all to see blahblahblah.

Now, it's enclosed in a box, of course, still able to see the meter running.

Looks elegant right? Picture may be so, but since it is white in colour, it is actually quite dirty right now. May not be clear from the picture though.

The top part can actually be opened, and there are 2 smaller compartments inside.

The one on the right, which I opened it, is called something like 'Customer Switch'.
WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

What does that mean? If I push that switch down to 'OFF' mode, does that mean my power supply at home will be switched off?
If any Tom, Dick, Harry passes by my home, and just anyhow push it down, am I supposed to live in darkness until I push it back to 'ON' mode?

I have no idea, as I haven't really 'tested' it out yet.

Hope I am wrong, otherwise, the darn relevant authority ought to be shot in their head. OOooops. That would be their ass. hehehe

Mahjong

Yesterday that Ninja sms-ed to say play mahjong. So arranged evening time to come over my house with his wife Christina and Tutti.

That's for the night time.

In the afternoon, had to go to my ex-colleague's daughter's first month celebration. Drove all the way to Warren, and boy, that's over 30km drive from home! Petrol is expensive nowadays ok! hehehe

Since we were at Warren, Karinna decided to drop by at her friend's place. Visit the little kids as well. The boys are getting bigger now, and pretty hyper-active too.

So we loiter at Warren until about 4pm then drive back home.

Came back home start cooking some chicken wings, some vegetables, somce rice. Nowadays groceries are getting expensive, cannot cook too much. For the few coming over for dinner, chin chai chin chai lah. hahaha
Let them go hungry better, then they cannot concentrate, then play mahjong lose to me! Brilliant!

No lah. I usually don't play unless no kaki enough. Furthermore, my mother-in-law probably hand itchy after a long time of hibernation from mahjong games.
So after the dinner, Ninja & wife & Tutti plus my mother-in-law then engaged in the four-wall-city war.

Seems like they played rather slow. Started at about 2030hrs probably, and finished close to 0230am. That's only 2 rounds of games. There must be some slow kakis somewhere ... :P

In the end, the husband & wife team lost to the other 2 individuals.

Next week another round of mahjong when Karinna's other friends coming over this coming Sunday ...
