Flag Up

Today is the first time I joined committee activity, doing real work.
Task is to put up flags around our estate for National Day.

I didn't receive any reminder or information regarding it, but nevertheless went ahead to our community centre at 2pm as agreed previously in the meeting to do the task.

Of course, I reached there early.
Our chairman was there. He's probably there everyday somehow, and showing support to the team members for erecting the flags up.

I think in total there were about 50-60 wooden poles. National flags around 40+. And some other colour flags with 12 in total.

There were only 3 of us. Chainman, the proposer, and me. Another helper came along about 20 minutes later. We were still fixing up the flags to the pole before bringing them out to erect them.
This part is not difficult. Just tying the flag to the pole, getting ready for the next part.
Still, it took almost an hour to fix up the flags.

With the help of trolley, we piled up the flags onto the trolley, and slowly made our way to the surrounding area.

We started from the Eunos Road near the CC, and made our way towards Eunos MRT Station. Our area is on the opposite of the MRT station.
So we started the work.
Chiselled in and dig a hole for the flag. Then hammer down a metal holder to stabilise the flag.
This is tough part. It's like digging trench in army, albeit a very small resemblance of it.
Koh did a big bulk of the work, but I can't let him do the hammering all the way. I have to hammer some in as well.
There were only 4 of us. 1 lady, our chairman who is already 70 (still going strong though), Koh, and I. Koh is the champion, hammering in a big bulk of the work. I chipped in to take over from time to time. The lady do mostly the tightening of the pole to the metal piece, and chairman is the quality controller.
LOL. In between we still switched around a bit here and there lah, else can die 1 siah.
Plus the bloody hot sun.
Wow! 杀了我吧!

We made our way down to the main traffer light near the mosque at diagonal of Eunos MRT station. Then went towards Changi Road again to put the flags at the other side of te estate.
At some junction intersection of Still Road and Changi Road, we took some pictures.

And then we turn back down towards Kampong Ubi CC, and put more along the road.

Of course, the blister will surely appear. And it did. How nice.

At the end, we still short of many more flag poles needed to put up in the area. That means, there will be a part 2!
They need to get more of the items first, so not sure when is that going to happen yet.
We shall see.

Sleepless In Joo Chiat

Last week wasn't a good week. Or should it be this week? Hmmm.
Nah. Last week.

Had some cough since Monday. Caused me to feel lethargic, and my whole body sort of ache.
酸痛 is the word. Ang mo, dunno.

Then coughed until giddy giddy.
Wah piang! Always like that 1.
And coughed until at night sleep also got problem.
Some days are Sleepless in Joo Chiat.

Cough still ok. Can't remember was it Tuesday or Wednesday, mainly my left leg felt a lot more 酸痛 than anywhere else.
This was the real toughie.
That kind of ache makes it even harder to sleep.
Waking up in the middle of night and cannot do anything about it.

I don't watch soccer, but because of the ache, I managed to catch the semi-final between Argentina and Netherland.
Yeah. I watched with no enthusiam. Anyway, it was goal-less and only go for penalty shoot-out.

Took some painkillers for some nights, and managed to sleep some hours.

Yesterday night also cannot sleep well with the aches.
Woke up a few times, and in the end, just gave up at 5am+.
早睡早起身体好!

Now, feel the cough might be recovering. But the damn ache on my left legs still lingers on.
Tonight must eat some painkillers liow.
Maybe should do acupunture. But poke poke here poke poke there si be jialat.
See how lah.

Family Day

Yesterday was 04 July.
Nah. I don't celebrate US' Independence Day.

It's Family Day for Zyan's child care centre.

It's supposed to be some costume theme, but we didn't prepare anything to go with the theme.
We shameless just wear similar T-shirts.
I Love Bangkok t-shirts.

Mother and son posing for cheap-thrill shot on the way to school.

There were about '28 contestants'. Each family is supposed to do catwalk down the church aisle, and then present themselves to ask for votes.

There were quite a few families who made extra effort into this. Impressive indeed.

For us, we just ran down the aisle, and just introduce our number, since we don't expect to get any vote. LOL

In the end, the 2 groups in the picture above were the top 2 teams.
The Tinkerbell group, and the Breakfast group.

I think the effort from the Tinkerbell group is outstanding. I like this group most.
However, the winner is the Breakfast group. Simple yet innovative. Cool.

At the end of the costume competition, it's food time. The adults had nasi lemak, while the children have rice with small hot dog and chicken nuggets and some ikan bilis.
And then it's touring time, visiting the artwork done by the kids in the child care centre.

Above is Zyan's product. Just one of the many in there. Nice little colourful fish.

And there, cool star fish by 郑智元.

Then it's play game time again.
They had 2 games, form into 5 different groups amongst the families..

1 game is to use non-living objects and form straight line. Whichever team formed the longest line win.
Our team didn't win. this.

Second game is getting a list of objects within the group.
They ask for 5 $10 notes, 2 $50 notes, 9 mobile phones, 7 watches, 6 pens, 3 belts blahblahblah.
It was fun. Of course the adults played this more so than the kids.
It's not easy to get some of the items as no one is prepared for it.
Kinda interesting. :P
And for this, our group came out as winner!
Yeah!

No family went home empty handed.

I think the kids are the happiest. With prizes and just games to play. No school! :P
I am sure next year will have another Family Day which they will enjoy.
