Volunteer You Volunteer Me

This morning, had to attend the Annual Work Plan Meeting with Kembangan CC.
I'm involved in some volunteer work with the Grassroots. Still figuring out the way things work within there.

It's held at National Library. Level 16 is a restricted area, just a place to conduct seminars or reception kind of things.
Quite a nice view up there, just that the weather wasn't great at the time.
Here are some pictures taken from there. C@@L.

This is the panaromic view where the slides projection is. The lightings made it hard to see the screen actually.

Some hazy views of the surroundings.

We were given a tour of the library. They brought us to level 7, where they house mainly the business, science and technoogy publications. Lots of students were studying there, as A-Level examinations are around the corner.
So long never come library, a bit sua-gu.

They also brought us to level 10, where they keep some of the special items from donors. Most of the items are kept in glass cabinet, where you can see, but can't touch. They also have this ma of the Silk Route, as shown below.
Quite interesting level, I must say.

Level 11, can't remember what they said. Oooops. I think it houses any publications that are available in Singapore, even magazines. Newspapers archive can be found here in microfilms too.
You can see Levels 12 and 13 from here, but you cannot go there. If browsing through  the catalog, and if the items are found in Level 12 or 13, the library staff will help to get it, somehow.

Then went back to Level 16, to have the buffet lunch before the actual meeting begins.
I'm not particular with food, so doesn't matter if it is nice or not.

Basically, it goes through some of the activities that each Committee planned for the coming year 2015. Some major ones, some minor ones.

One of the activities, One Community Day, has been fixed as 01 Feb 2015. It is meant to coincide near CNY period.
It is already in preparation now, and this will need many volunteers to help do some work.

If I remember well, it is broken down into 3 different areas.
Rice distribution for the needies; Accommodation Cleanup for the needies/elderlies; and Appreciation Dinner for the Pioneer Generations (think not just restrictive to PG, but Senior Citizens).
There are many low income families in Chai Chee area. That's where our area of focus is.
I went to Eileen, who is overall in charge, to tell her slot me in any one of it. Will try to help out.

Anyone want to join me? :P

As part of this involvement in Grassroots work recently, I also participate to help in the Meet-the-People-Session.
Every Monday (except 5th Monday and Holiday), from 7.30pm onwards.
Now still observer stage, see how other volunteers help residents in their problems. Record down, and then send to various agencies to help them.
Quite an eye opener session to be involved in. This is where the real issues are reflected. Some are real, but still, some are fakes apparently.
Whatever it is, the volunteers will try to help as much as possible for these people.
I've done 2 rounds of observation, still 4-6 rounds to go before I can help more actively.
Meanwhile, watch and learn.

Come come, let's get involve, and make the little contribution that we can do.
